Optima Batteries denied my warranty claim
I bought my Optima Red Top 2 years ago, and this summer it decided it no longer wanted to hold a charge. I charged the battery with a Noco Genius charger and it would get to about 75% complete before the charger would go into safety protection. I figured, what the hell, I'll pop it in the car and see what happens. While driving the car around the battery began to offgas and got too hot to touch! Talk about a safety hazard. No battery should ever do this, regardless of how bad of shape it's in.
I contacted the distributor I bought the battery from and they requested the serial number from the battery - I looked everywhere and couldn't find it!
Turns out, Optima likes to put their batteries serial numbers on a sticker that happened to fall off during the use of my battery. Why they think this is a good idea is beyond me.

The distributor offered to take the battery back (I had to pay shipping costs to get it there) and forward it to Optima for them to review.
Distributor received the battery, confirmed it was dead, and shipped it off to Optima. Optima got back to them a few weeks later and denied the warranty claim due to the serial number being missing from the battery. Optima's warranty on a Red Top is 3 years, by the way.
I have all the original proof of purchase information from the distributor, yet they will not honor it.
Now I'm $220 in the hole and get to buy a battery that will last longer than the crappy Red Top.
Any suggestions on what kind of actions I can take with Optima to try to get a new battery, or my money back? I feel like this could have been a serious safety hazard if I continued to use the battery with how hot it was beginning to get.
TLDR; Optima battery went dead before 3 year warranty expired. Got too hot to touch while driving. Optima batteries is denying warranty claim because sticker that contains the serial number has fallen off.

edit2: Optima has reached out to me and are have offered to refund me the original cost of the battery! Thanks reddit!
