Turn on your TV and DirecTV box. Press 'Menu' on your remote. Navigate to 'Parental, Favs and Setup' and choose 'System Setup.' Pick 'Remote' and select the option to program it.

Slide the switch on top of your remote control to 'TV' mode. Press and hold 'Mute.' Press the 'Select' button until the light on your remote flashes.

Press the following sequence of numbers on the number pad of your remote: 9911. The light should flash on your remote.

Press the button to move the channel up, while pointing the remote at your Bravia televison. The set will power down when you've come across the correct code.
Tips
- It may take some time to find the correct setting for your TV with the remote.
- If you don't have the time for this method, switch your remote to TV mode, hold 'Select' and 'Mute' until the remote blinks and try the following codes '10810,' '993' or '963. 'You will have to hold 'Select' and 'Mute' each time you want to try a new code.
Warning
- Newer TVs are less compatible with universal controls. You might find a setting that lets you adjust the power, channels and volume, but lacks support for other buttons. For example, compatibility of the 'Input' button varies.
